How to Find and Use an Electric Charging Station
Charging stations are fairly easy to use. If you’re in need of an electric charging station and aren’t sure where they are, some apps can help, like ChargeHub or PlugShare. These apps provide:
- Location of station
- Station types
- Station availability
When you arrive at the charging station, follow these three steps.
Step One: Plug in Your EV
When you choose a station to use, pop open your EV’s charging port. You’ll then use the plug at the station and plug in your EV.
Step Two: Pay For Your Charging Session
Some charging stations cost a little money. This might depend on the power and speed offered by the charger. Most charging stations allow you to pay by credit or debit card on an app or the charging station itself.
Step Three: Begin Charging Session
Once you’ve paid, the charging session will begin. It will track your session. If you have an app associated with the charging station, it will update you on the session and let you know when it’s complete.
Types of Public Charging Stations
Charging stations typically offer two options, a Level 2 station and a Fast/DC-Quick Charging Station.
Level 2 Charging stations are ideal for vehicles that can be left at the station for a few hours. It charges a little slower and is free to use most of the time.
DC-Quick Charging Stations are the fastest chargers available. These are great stations if you need a quick charge on a road trip or between meetings. DC Quick Charging stations often cost money to use.
